Specification for High-TG Circuits on PCBs
The PCB glass transition temperature, also known as "Tg", is the point where the PCB material begins to change. The board will start to transform from a solid state to a liquid one if the temperature is higher than the Tg value. This can have a negative effect on the ability of the board to function.
Standard PCBs can be manufactured using materials with a TG of 140degC and can operate at temperatures as low as 110degC. This may not be ideal for processes at extreme temperatures, but they are often used in high-temperature electronic applications like automotive or industrial. A PCB made of FR-4 can be the ideal solution in these cases.
What is FR-4?
FR-4 is a designation for a flame retardant fiberglass reinforced epoxy. FR-4 PCB is a higher-quality PCB that offers a greater resistance to heat. FR-4 circuit board is classified into four categories based on the number of copper traces found in the material.
